The short-list of students’ and debut films competition is formed
IDFF “Flahertiana” has announced the short-list of students’ and debut films competition. 15 movies made it to the list, including Perm author’s film, Teach’s Diary by Daria Abaturova. Daria graduated from the Academy of Arts and Culture (Rashid Davletshin’s workshop).
“We were not disappointed with the level of movies we got,” says Olga Averkieva, curator of the competition and filmmaker. “It is the first year we have nomination for young authors, and frankly speaking, we were a bit worried until very last. But students and debutants did great job.”
Among competition’s films, there is Moving Spirit by Sofia Geveiler, Yulia Byvsheva and Sofia Kucher. Young directors told about sportsmen’ lives during Paralympic Games in Sochi.
One more film, Ten Centimeters of Life by Anna Yanovskaya, tells a story of people fighting for their lives during Krymsk flood in 2012. Ten centimeters is the space between water and ceiling. Protagonists had to stay on furniture for eight hours to be able to breath during the flood.
Aleksander Zubovlenko’s Cinderella is about 27-year-old girl searching for love. Her child’s father is not paying alimony, she has no work, but Maria doesn’t give up. She believes her dreams will come true. It is not the only festival film about loneliness. Festival public will also see a film about single father.
Aleksander Gutman is going to be the head of competition’s jury. The jury will choose two winners: one in students’ films and one in debut films. New competition will take place at the same time as two traditional ones, International Competition and Russian Flahertiana. The 15th IDFF Flahertiana will be held on 18-24 September.
