Flahertiana-2016 Sets New Applications Record

International Documentary Film Festival Flahertiana finished to accept applications for this year's main competition programs.

Almost 700 films were applied to enter the competition which is a hundred more than the last year. The festival has received documentaries from Russia, France, Germany, New Zealand, Yemen, Syria, Mexico and many others. Now selectors are to decide which films will be screened in September during the festival.

"Every year Flahertiana breaks its records. This year we got 684 applications which is a hundred more than in 2015, - notes Alina Shirinkina, Chief Coordinator of the IDFF Flahertiana. - Again we were pleasantly surprised with the amount of directors willing to show their films in Perm. We are glad to tell that this year documentaries deal with very acute topics such as migration crisis and conflicts in Syria, at the same time staying interested in individual stories of a man, a family, a comunity".

At the beginning of July short-lists of International Competition and Russian Flahertiana will be finally formed. Student Films Competition will continue to accept applications till the end of June and the short-list of this competition will be announced in the middle of July.

Flahertiana's moto for the competing films is to correspond with the aesthetics of Robert Flaherty, who is considered to be the founder of the documentary film. Camera calmly watches its characters for a durable period of time, showing their way of living and life paths.

This year festival will become the 16th. It is held in Perm, Russia, September 16-23.
