International Documentary Film Festival “Flahertiana” has formed the program of National Competition 2016. 18 films will strive for the Small Golden Nanook.

Pavel Petchenkin, the President of Flahertiana, notes: “National competition short-list matches this year – The Year of Russian Cinema: there is a variety of regions presented in the program, including Sakhalin and Northeast Passage. The most famous Russian documentary filmmakers got into the shortlist, the program is just brilliant. At last for many years we can see a new character forming (young director of aircraft design bureau in the film of Galina Leontieva “Bernoulli’s Principle”). Very acute is Natalia Gugueva’s “Overdrive. Return Point” telling of hard Russian-Ukraine aviators’ opposition, of those, who once where fellow soldiers and countrymen, during the Donbass bombardment”.

Russian Flahertiana has both venerable directors such as Ivan Tverdovsky, Pavel Medvedev, Elena Laskari, and young filmmakers, like the students of Marina Razbezhkina’s School of Documentary Film. The competition program also includes the film which was already recognized internationally – “Not my Job” by Denis Shabaev, awarded this spring on Visions du Reel (Nyon, Switzerland), GoEast (Wisbaden, Germany) and Kinotavr (Sochi, Russia).

Even Perm is presented in the program this year by the film “Schoolboy’s Mate”, dir. Olga Averkieva. And named after the famous Perm street-installation “Happiness is not Far Away” by Natalia Savras from Yekaterinburg was also included in shortlist. This is a story of Japanese girl who came to Perm to study ballet.

Filmmakers will present their works on the festival. International Documentary Film Festival “Flahertiana” is held from 16th to 23rd of September for the 16th time already.
