Flahertiana has completed the admission of the films for competitions

The IDFF Flahertiana has completed the admission of the films for competitions. The Organizing Committee received 772 submissions from Poland, Portugal, Canada, Germany, Belgium, Finland, Spain, USA, Belarus, Macedonia, Slovenia, Mozambique, Jordan, Qatar, Syria, Nepal and other countries.

Beside the films sent by filmmakers themselves, Flahertiana considers the documentaries recommended by the members of the Selection Committee that they have seen on collaborating festivals. Flahertiana programming team searched for the films on IDFA, Berlinale, Visions du reel, Doс Point and DOK Leipzig. A number of the documentaries coming to Perm from other festivals is the same that is sent by filmmakers independently, so, in total, the Selection Committee has to choose from over a thousand participating films.

– This year's acute issues are family and ecology, and also popular are the documentaries devoted to disabled people. Among the well-made films, I would note ones about feminism and place of a woman in the contemporary world: women-activists, women-mothers – that's what worries documentary filmmakers the most. I see a certain increase of films on this topic. From all the films submitted, we will choose about 15 films for Russian Flahertiana and 15 films for the International Competition. As usual, one of the defining factors of selection is the correspondence of the film to the aesthetics of Robert Flaherty, – says Alina Stabrovskaya, Chief Coordinator of the IDFF Flahertiana.

We remind that this year Flahertiana will hold 3 competitions: International, National competition Russian Flahertiana and Student Competition. The deadline for submissions to the Student Competition is 25th of June.
