Flahertiana will show progressive Czech cinema

The most progressive documentary film festival in the Czech Republic Ji.hlava will present a rich program at Flahertiana. The audience will see how “invisible people” work, “new families” live and modern Vietnamese adapt to European culture.

The films of the program are the starting point for discussing the acute problems of society. For example, the hard conditions of workers in low-paid jobs are told by the “Czech Diary: The Limits of Work” which won the Best Czech Documentary Film at Ji.hlava 2017. And the new views on the family are expressed by the film “Non-Parent” — made from six radically different stories of modern couples. Both films will be presented by the directors Jana Počtová and Apolena Rychlíková who will specially come to Russia to talk to the audience.

The program also includes three short films from young documentarists. Two of them — about the problems of a foreign community in the Czech Republic: “The Little One” and “Bo Hai” immersing viewers to the surroundings of young Vietnamese. Another day in the mine on the eve of its closure we will live together with the character of the film “The Last Shift of Tomas Hisem”.

International Documentary Film Festival Ji.hlava is one of the largest reviews of creative non-fiction films in Europe. It shows films about socially significant problems, the innovations to the cinema language are welcomed. The festival program will be shown at the IDFF Flahertiana under support of the Czech Center Moscow.

In previous years, Flahertiana showed films from other major festivals: DOK Leipzig in Germany, the Finnish film festival DocPoint and the oldest documentary film festival in Krakow.
