NORWEGIAN KARENINA IS COMING TO FLAHERTIANA

Special screening of the film “Karenina & I” will be held at the Flahertiana festival. The documentary about an unusual theatrical production with the participation of the famous Norwegian actress Gorild Mauseth was shown already at the Moscow International Film Festival and at other Russian and international events. At Flahertiana, the Perm premiere will take place with the participation of Italian director Tommaso Mottola and the main heroine of the film.

The star of the Norwegian theater, Mauseth faces an almost impossible challenge – to play Anna Karenina in the author’s homeland and in the original language. She travels 11,000 kilometres along the Trans-Siberian Railway to the Primorsky Drama Theater in Vladivostok in order to learn Russian and immerse herself in the history of writing the novel not yet knowing how much this role will change her.

Director Tommaso Mottola who worked with Milos Forman and Mark Ferreri shows how the actor explores the boundaries between fiction and reality. This film is about understanding love, experiencing loneliness, the pursuit of hopes and dreams and how to live the fullest life. The main character of the documentary, Gorild Mauseth, also acted as a producer and screenwriter. The film is accompanied by the music of Arvo Pärth – a classic of our time.

Two screenings are planned in the program: September 21 at 19:30 and September 22 at 16:30. After the film, the audience will be able to ask questions to guests from Italy and Norway who will come to Perm for the festival.

The arrival of Tommaso Mottola was organized with the support of the Italian Institute of Culture in Moscow. The screening and arrival of Gorild Mauseth is supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Norway in Moscow.
