FLAHERTIANA WORKSHOP: WHICH STORY DO YOU WANT TO TELL?

Filmmaker Jessica Gorter has been working in Russia for the last 20 years. She came to Russia for the first time at the beginning of the 90’s and was gripped by the silent revolution that perestroika brought forth. She witnessed how this historical event changed the country overnight and how it had an enormous emotional impact on every Russian.

This led her to making films like Piter, 900 Days and The Red Soul, At the heart of each film lies her fascination for the fact that there is no unequivocal truth. Her films are a carefully constructed mosaic of personal portraits where parallel worlds are exposed and different truths live side by side.

Which story do you want to tell and what are the necessary steps to transform your idea into a film? Jessica will talk about the process of filmmaking based on her own long-time experience of filming in Russia.

Event organized under support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands
