72 years have passed as deer herder Vukvukai lives in the depths of Chukotka. He is an old man full of energy and wisdom - the 'real man of the tundra whose life cannot be seen apart from a deer. His people take care of a huge herd - over 14,000 deers. Their life is a non-stop struggle for survival and well-being in the most harsh weather conditions of Chaun-Chukotka. They deeply believe in the strength of tradition and so they succeed in their struggle. The ancient culture of Nomadic Chukchi takes care of them, so they preserve and follow it. As far as it is so - their world remains stable. This is the truth of Vukvukai.

Aleksey Vakhrushev

Aleksey Vakhrushev

was born in Anadyr (Chukotka), in 1969. Graduated from the All Russian State Cinematography Institute (VGIK) in 1996 (workshop of V.P. Lisakovich). He worked as director and script writer of documentary films at “M” – FILM” studio in Moscow from 1993 to 2001. From 2001 to 2008 directed a series of “Russian National Georgaphy” program at the TV Company "Ethno-Online", Peoples of Russia at Russia Today and a number of independent projects. Since 2009 he has been general producer and director at “Visokiye Shiroty” studio (High Latitudes ltd ) in Moscow. He is a research fellow at the Institute of Anthropology and Ethnography of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
