People’s Artist of Russia. Born in 1937. In 1964 he graduated from VGIK, directing department, workshop of A. Ovanesova and L. Kristi. Worked at the Studio of documentary films. In 1968 he was appointed artistic director of the documentary studio ”Ekran”. In 1988 -1994 served at the Gorky studio, association “ Film program. 20th Century”. In 1981 started to teach at VGIK. Head of the workshop and chair of non-fiction film. Professor. Author of over 120 documentaries.
