RETROSPECTIVE OF HERZ FRANK

Flashback (0+)

Israel, Latvia, 2002, 105 min.
Director: Herz Frank
«This film is a confession. I dedicated the film to all cameramen with whom I was lucky to work, who worked with all their heart and soul, with one eye dry and another wet. Each frame out of 400 included into the film is a real document. Altogether they form an artistic fabric with a dramatic story full of philosophy, personal perception of the world and, of course, visual culture. All the rest – words, music, noise and silence which also has its voice – rooted into strict sequence of images. As far as documentary is concerned I have always been attracted by spiritual life of a person, personality and perennial problems – love, birth, death, destiny… I have always been tortured by doubts: do we, documentary filmmakers, have the right to expose someone’s life? I doubted but I continued to film», - Herz Frank.
