Petya and Kiril – who’ve just turned 18 – volunteer to serve on the front in Chechnya. Katya, a nurse, works in a field hospital in the war zone. None of them are the same when they come back. Crippled physically and emotionally, abandoned with their experiences of mutilations, torture and death. Over a three-year period Johann Feindt and Tamara Trampe observe the returnees trying to cope again in a society that represses awareness of the war. The Committee of Mothers of Russian Soldiers is the only place where they, along with the helpless parents, find like-minded people they can talk to.

studied German Language and Literature at Rostock University, going on in 1967 to start working as cultural commissioning editor for “Forum”. From 1970 to 1990 she was involved in numerous feature films as a script advisor and dramaturge at the DEFA studio in Babelsberg. Since 1990 she has worked as a freelance filmmaker, scriptwriter and dramaturge and teaches at several film schools.

Johann Feindt
born in1951 in Hamburg, he initially studied medicine. In 1980 he graduated from the DFFB in Berlin and has been working since then as a cinematographer, scriptwriter and director for television productions, documentary and feature films.
