Flahertiana announces the best documentaries of 2017
Today, on the 21st September of 2017, the IDFF Flahertiana announced the winners of its 17th edition. Prizes were awarded in 3 competitions: International, National and Student.
"First of all this festival was huge. All filmmakers of "Russian Flahertiana" came to present their films. This year we have an enormous amount of guests — 124 people! Together with our German colleagues for the first time we've held the international pitching. This is the direction we plan to really work on — to involve the best experts, buyers and producers. The main output of this festival is that now we totally understand the way of the development of the festival. Another direction of this development — educational — was discussed on the Perm Media Education Forum which was part of the festival. For the first time on this platform, the Ministry of Education of the region was present which is a very important and good sign. Regarding the number of viewers of this edition of Flahertiana, we have just started to summarize the scores but the total amount approaches 15 thousand", — comments Pavel Pechenkin, the President of "Flahertiana".
In his turn, the President of Perm State University, Vladimir Malanin, this year was awarded the nominal Nanook — traditional award of the festival — for his contribution to VUZ-Flahertiana project. "Several years ago Pavel brought me to the orbit of "Flahertiana" and ever since the whole university is orbiting around. "Flahertiana" have found the good audience here and we hope that for many years to follow PSU will become if not a home then a platform of future festivals", — notes Vladimir Malanin.
Right after the festival the project "Echo of Flahertiana" starts. The festival invites to cooperate various platforms all over the world to screen the best documentaries made in Flaherty's aesthetics and traditions. The first screenings will be held this weekend already in Premier Cinema Center. The "Echo of Flahertiana" is planned for the whole next year.
