BALLET, ECOLOGY AND LITERATURE IN CINEMA – MEET SPECIAL PROGRAM OF FLAHERTIANA

This year Flahertiana Festival has an extensive special program. The audience will see films about ecology and ballet, films nominated for the European Film Academy Award, a special selection of Moscow Film School, and much more.

On the topic of ecology, the festival, together with partners, compiled even two selections. The first one is “ECODOC. Ecology and Society" with the support of the Goethe-Institut and the IDFF DOKer. It will show the sustainable development of not only nature but also of society. One of the potential hits is the film "Now", where teenagers are fighting for the future of our planet – world-famous eco-activist Greta Thunberg and German schoolboy Felix Finkbeiner.

The second environmental program is from the International Green Documentary Film Festiva “EcoCup”: garbage collection as an art, slavery on fish farms in Thailand, and people at the forefront of the fight against climate change.

Another thematic program is "Ballet.doc", which includes films about a popular science ballet, about the difficulties and victories of young Hungarian dancers, and also an immersion in the history of Perm choreography together with director Oleg Fedorushchenko.

In addition, the Flahertiana festival, as one of the partners of the European Film Academy, this year is taking part in the Shorts Tour campaign, a special program aimed at popularizing short films. Together with the Eastwood agency for film promotion, we chose five non-fiction films – participants and winners of key world festivals. You’ll find stories about the Catman, the characters of Zurich, and women who share their experience of relationships with their bodies from childhood to old age.

There will also be films from young authors – a special program "Workshop" will present the best films of Moscow Film School. You’ll see observations of the Kazan artist, winner of the "Golden Mask" Nurbek Batulla, as well as of a chiropractor in a provincial town, and a lonely woman embarking on an adventurous journey with new love.

Russian producer Viktor Skubey will also present his selection of films. He has collected the best films filmed over the past decade at the Miradox studio and its predecessor SevZapKino. Among them are philosophical observations of the visitors of commission shops "Without Breaks and Weekends", a film about one of the most mysterious poets Viktor Sosnora and the film "Children of the Grotto" about what the blind see.

This year Flahertiana will also host the International Film Festival “Literature and Cinema”. The best films from the festival’s screenings in Gatchina will be presented by the director of the festival Ruslan Tikhomirov: the story of Vladimir Mayakovsky's last love, a film about the Red Army's military operation in the Arctic, as well as the adaptation of “The Little Prince”, which destroyed the life of one family

Online and offline ticket sales will start on the 1st of September. Flahertiana is supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the Perm Krai.
