Civil Status (12+)

Russia, 2005, b/w, 29 min.
Director: Alina Rudnitskaya
A brilliant observational documentary filmed at the Civil Registry office in St. Petersburg, where people come to have births, marriages, divorces and deaths registered. Ironic point of view of a young director, this film combines life’s most happy moments with bureaucratic formalism. Humorous yet tragic, this paradox combination brings a grotesque element to the film.
