Ziad Kalthoum

is a Syrian filmmaker currently living in Berlin. He was born in Homs in 1981 and holds a degree in film studies.

In Beirut, Syrian workers build a skyscraper, and at the same time in their homeland, their own houses are being destroyed. The meditative, visionary film "Taste of Cement" tells about what it's like to live in exile in a world torn apart by war and not be able to return home.
