First film of Anatoly Baluev shot in Komi-Permyatsky Autonomous District. The peculiarity of this 1.5 hour long picture is that it was fully shot in the village of Kochevo, place where director was born, grew up and where numerous relatives and friends of his live. At the same time film is not shot in slice-of-life approach: its universal philosophic essence is already could be seen in its name ("We were smoke" is a translation of Latin saying "Fuimusfumus").
AWARDS
Prize "For a film made with love and humor" at the Film Festival in Pärnu (Estonia). The prize for best feature film at the Open Documentary Film Festival "Russia" (Yekaterinburg).
Anatoly Baluev
Anatoly Baluev
(born in 1946, village Kochevo of Perm District, died in 2013, Yekaterinburg) is a Russian documentary filmmaker. In 1973 he graduated from the faculty of Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography (VGIK), then worked as an editor, and then a director at Sverdlovsk Film Studio, where he shot most of his films. From 1999 to 2006 he worked as a director and head of combining TV movies on STRC "Ural" (Yekaterinburg).
