Anesthetized (18+)

Russia, 2021, colour, 79 min.
Director: Elena Laskari
On New Year's Eve, the ambulance service and the trauma department of the hospital in Torzhok have a lot of work. Someone has been frying cutlets and got an extensive burn, someone’s broken his leg, someone’s having a birth to a sixth child, and someone just got drunk and fell under the wheels of a passing car. This elderly woman was beaten by her daughter; that man has all the symptoms of a heart attack but he refuses to be hospitalized... People argue, shout, cry, and resist. And only under anesthesia do they calm down and become silent. Anesthesia is like a metaphor of modern life, anesthesia is dispersed in the air. We hear it in the President’s New Year’s congratulatory speech and calm down as well... And only the ambulance starts the engine and rushes to the next call.
