Along the banks of Pinega, forests inhabited by wild animals and withering villages stretch. Getting to them is no easy: the roads are washed out by water, so in summer the only path
here is by boat. Local women honor traditions and remember old songs. They pass on to each other beliefs, conjurations, funeral cries and lamentations from mouth to mouth. The polyphony of this wilderness becomes the leitmotif of the entire film – a documentary musical, a hypnotic journey through the northern settlements of Russia.
