Makar Kurilov is one of the Yukaghir people, the ancient inhabitants of northeastern Siberia. After working as a reindeer herder in a state farm for thirty years, Makar decides to drastically change his destiny -– he becomes the leader of an ethnic group, teaching traditional dances and singing to the children.

was born in Yakutia. He graduated from the East Siberian Academy of Culture and Arts in Ulan-Ude. He also attended the Higher Courses for Scriptwriters and Directors of the Union of Cinematographers of the Russian Federation in Moscow.
