My Country, My Country follows the agonizing predicament and gradual descent of one man caught in the tragic contradictions of the U.S. occupation of Iraq and its project to spread democracy in the Middle East. The story unfolds through the eyes of Dr. Riyadh, a medical doctor, father of six, devout Sunni Muslim, and a political candidate in Iraq’s January 2005 parliamentary elections. Interwoven with Dr. Riyadh’s story is a secondary cast of characters that include the U.N. Electoral Assistance Division, the United States military’s nation-building division, and the private security contractors responsible for ensuring that the mechanics of the election are in put into place.

is a director, a script writer and a camera woman. She is winner of numerous international awards and was nominated for Emmy Award in 2004. Poitras resides in New York City at the moment.
