Russia, 2002, colour, 34 min.
Director: Elena Chetina
Today’s Komi-Permiak’s countryside. Focus of attention is a so-called “the 40th day” when the soul leaves this world forever. The dead man’s relatives gather to attend a traditional funeral repast and “kotoma” to help the deceased get in the “Other World”. Archaic rituals and songs are performed at the parent’s house of the dead man, where the role of the deceased is played by one of the guests.
