“Flahertiana” has named films in a competition for festival’s Grand Prix – Golden Nanuk. 15 movies made it to short list. They include Polish film Werka about a girl willing to adopt a child, film 16 Years Till Summer (Ireland, Scotland) about a former prisoner, and British A Syrian Love Story where struggle goes on both personal and social happiness.

Two Russian films made it to short list of “Flahertiana”. First one, Long. Black. Cloud Is Coming Down (directed by Alexandra Likhacheva) is about two young Moscow citizens. Their parents built up communism, their grandparents defeated fascism, but they have nothing to build and no one to defeat. Second film is a work of Perm director Galina Krasnoborova called Old Wives. Built on a large number of close ups, film tells the story of Komi-Permian village singers' lives: they speak about their children, illnesses, fiancés, and favourite songs. 

As it has always been on “Flahertiana”, directors will present their films in person. This year organizers of the international documentary film festival got 572 applications to choose from – it is almost twice more than last year. Selectors also went through all large film festivals of the world to find interesting entries. Short list now includes films from Chile, Iran, Poland, UK, Germany, Ireland, Scotland, France, the Czech Republic, Israel, Denmark, Spain, Romania and Russia. 

IDFF “Flahertiana 2015” will take place September 18-24. It will be the 15th festival marking 20th birthday of “Flahertiana”. Besides international competition, audience will also see Russian films out of the program, and works of students and newcomers.
