National Competition Short-list is announced
National Competition program «Russian Flahertiana» is formed. It includes 16 films shot in Russia during the last year. Most films of the program will be presented by their authors personally during the festival.
«This year «Russian Flahertiana» will unveil the secret of a successful documentary film. And this secret is in love to the subject, to the character. The whole National Competition Program consists of examples of filmmakers' love and respect for their heroes. Neither political situation nor conventionality of boundaries can matter when we talk about human essence and the characters that are opened to us. And exactly with this essence and these films we again will tell out audience and guests about so immense but at the same time so close Russia», – Pavel Petchenkin, the President of the festival, comments the program of «Russian Flahertiana».
Among the Russian filmmakers, there are some whom the festival audience knows. Thus, Anna Moiseenko was the winner of «Russian Flahertiana» in 2013. In September she will present her new film «Songs of Abdul» telling the story of a Tajik migrant who shares his feelings in poetic form sung on the motives of traditional Tajik songs. Elizaveta Kozlova, the participant of the last year Student Competition, will present the film «In the Eye of the Storm» on a par with «adult» filmmakers of the National Competition. And Anna Dranitsyna will be the participant of Flahertiana for the fourth time already; this year her film «The Bridge» is one of the challengers for the Small Golden Nanook.
There are new names in the competition as well. Vadim Vitovtsev will bring to Perm «Small People. Big Trees», the film he shot in… Africa. Vitovtsev's documentary is devoted to the life of the smallest people on Earth, the Baka pygmies. This film has already won numerous awards and now will be screened at Flahertiana. For the first time in Perm will be the filmmaker Yulia Bobkova to present her film «The Last Waltz» devoted to the composer Oleg Karavaichuk. Bobkova's film was already screened at the Moscow Film Festival and named « а potential hit», sort of an artistic testament of the composer.
This year the IDFF Flahertiana will be held for the 17th time from 15 to 21 September and will include the International, National and Student Films competitions together with the large program of special events, retrospectives and workshops.
