FLAHERTIANA WILL SHOW A FILM ABOUT THE LEGENDARY DIRECTOR PETER BROOK

Flahertiana will host a special screening of the film “Peter Brook: The Tightrope” about one of the most progressive directors of our time shot by his son Simon Brook. We will get an amazing opportunity to watch rehearsals and communication between the director and his troupe and see how acting lessons gradually develop into a doctrine of life and structure of the world.

The screening will be held on September 22 at 19:30. Prior to this, on September 21 at 15:30 Simon Brook will meet with the audience at the master class “How to Shoot People” where he will talk about his experience as a filmmaker. Entrance to the lecture is free, to the film screening  – with Premier Cinema Center tickets.

The director-son chose his hero impeccably  – not every documentalist manages to get to know who he is shooting so well. However, the film does not look like a typical family portrait. In this work, together with the author, we will try to find an answer to the question that Peter Brook himself explores throughout his creative biography: “What makes the theater alive?” You can get closer to this answer having understood the essence of one of Brook’s methods  – “The Tightrope”. In the process, the imaginary tightrope becomes a symbol of the world, the starting point for the path of an actor and a man – mobile and unstable but requiring the preservation of balance and concentration.

The audience will be able to discuss their thoughts on the film with the director Simon Brook after the screening.

The meeting with the author and the screening are held with the support of the French Institute in Russia at the Embassy of France, Alliance Francais–Perm and the International Theater Institute (Russian Center).
