Ironeaters (16+)

Germany, 2007, colour, 85 min.
Director: Shaheen Dill-Riaz
The seasonal famine in the remote parts of northern Bangladesh forces farmers Kholil and Gadu to leave their fields and travel south to work as seasonal labourers in the infamous shipyards that line the beaches of Chittagong. Their new job is to dismantle the garbage of the Western World: large oil tankers, massive container ships and any vessel that has sailed the seas for too long. Without the machinery and protective equipment, they gut the ships right on the beach where they are driven ashore. Razorsharp pieces of metal, toxic chemicals, and hazardous tools turn the job into a living hell.
