Competition program of XIV International documentary film festival «Flahertiana» is formed. Audience will see stories from all over the world: life dramas, heroic daily routine and dreams. In one program audience will see 73-year-old Canadian going to marry 23-year-old Filipino (film «Father figures», director April Butler, Gillian Hrankowski), Iranian ninja-women (film «Iranian Ninja», director Marjan Riahi), and modern Karamazov brothers (film «Life Almost Wonderful», director Svetoslav Draganov).

More than 300 documentaries from all over the world were sent to the festival, 17 of them were chosen for competition. This year’s participants are from Canada, Poland, France, Iran, Israel, Germany, Bulgaria, Italy, Lithuania, the Netherlands, and Finland. For international competition program a record number of Russian documentaries was chosen. These include 3 films: «Blood» (director Alina Rudnitzkaya) about daily routine of blood transfusion mobile station, «Del and his Predel» (director Elena Laskari) about the creator of the theatre, and «The Book» (director Vitali Mansky) about the relationship of modernity and ancient cultures.

All the year round «Flahertiana» team is involved in world documentary cinema’s life. Critics Marina Drozdova and Viktoria Belopolskaya – visited Leipzig, Helsinki, Amsterdam, Berlin, Nyon, Cannes, Tel-Aviv and watched tens of new works by Western documentarians to pick the best of the best for Perm film forum. President of «Flahertiana» Pavel Petchenkin worked at Iranian international festival «Cinema Verite» in Teheran and visited European friends of Perm festival – «Millenium» in Brussels and the biggest review festival «Visions du Reel» in Nyon, Switzerland. 

Year’s work of the whole team will finally result in XIV festival «Flahertiana». In 2014 it will start on September, 21 and will end in a week. Perm citizens will once again get a chance to see best documentaries from all over the world.
